Tiny Creatures

The Golden-spotted Tiger Beetle is a lightning-fast hunter, dashing across sandy ground in quick bursts to chase tiny insects.

It runs so fast that it sometimes has to pause mid-chase to reorient itself before striking again.

Pumpkin Beetle. This small leaf beetle is often found on pumpkin, cucumber and other gourd-family plants, where it chews holes in the leaves. Its bright orange head and shiny black wing covers make it stand out among the damaged foliage.

The Lesser Grass Blue is a very tiny grass blue butterfly. It is commonly seen flying low over grass patches and resting on small flower heads.

The Mud Creeper, locally known as red chut-chut, is a mangrove snail often seen crawling across muddy shores. It feeds on algae and detritus, helping to recycle nutrients in the mangrove ecosystem.

The Pantropical Jumping Spider (pictured is a female), also commonly called the Housefly Catcher, is an active hunter often found around homes, gardens and other human habitats. Both are excellent at catching flies and other small insects.

The Two-striped Jumping Spider (Telamonia dimidiata) is a highly agile, visually striking jumping spider native to tropical rainforests and wooded areas across Asia.

The brown planthopper is a tiny sap-sucking insect that often rests on stems or the underside of leaves, blending in well with its brown, leaf-like colour.
